Steve,

Just some news, tt has been reported, by Taiwanese Newspapers, that TSMC has installed the copper plating machines during May; UMC also installed similar machines during June. The first shipment of the 0.18u copper chips from TSMC is scheduled by March/99. The mass production across the line is expected to start from Sept/99.

Due to the heavy investments on copper chip equipments, only those need high frequency, such as video chips and CPUs, will be implemented with copper chip technology to absorb the high initial costs (though, manufacturing costs will be lower).

Hehehe... we are going to have some real fun soon.
