"If there's a buyer" and the company, like I believe, sucks, than why would he buy? Maybe he wants to get a large long position, enough to squeeze out the short. In this case, all he needs is a promise from the company not to increase available shares. The company may be worth nothing, but the stock will still fly high since they have no choice but to buy.
