TED,

As a former employee at PTUS, I saw first hand how the tool differed from other competitors. However, where the company lacks, is getting that message across. Unfortunately for them, it is now way too late for that type of messaging/positioning, at least in the Y2K arena.

However, I would love to see them try to do something in positioning for post Y2K. A nice head to head comparison (something like a consumers digest) would be nice. Then, you could actually quantify and qualify, the differnce in tools. As an investor in PTUS, and as a former employee, my views are definately biased. However, I'm confident enough in what they have, and the fact that they are terribly undervalued, that I have continued to add to my position.

Let's hope that earnings will be positive, and get this thing moving again.

JSI

Old programmers don't just fade away, they try to profit from the mess of their own making. FWIW, Ted, I feel euro conversion will be a more difficult fix then Y2k but smaller number of companies and systems are affected whereas Y2k is more universal.

My investment in PTUS was not for their tools but based on the expectations that they will grow their SI, Consulting business. I am not sure how any of that is going.

I have a lot of faith in management to make a mess of things by waiting too long or to ignore recommendations that come out of MIS shops. I remember making recommendations in 1984 as part of a data administration standards that we should adopt metric date standard for all computer and related systems (forms, reports etc.) for any new computer systems being developed. Metric date is (YYYYMMDD). Although standards were approved I am not sure they were fully implemented because after I left the MIS shop went through one of it's periodic reorganization.

With the Boston Bank news, we're getting some nice price action and volume. Here's a sampling of Y2K stocks and a comparison of their price-to-sales ratio and current ratios (as of July 2, 1998). PTUS comes out as having the best investment value:
