Two more examples of why I'm frustrated with TDFX's approach of not aggressively promoting their products:

1.) ORG also got totally snowed by the recent S3 "behind-the-sceens" press tour (sigh...):

S3 emphasized demos that show the strengths of their card - 20MB of Quake2 textures, 32-bit color, etc. And the press ate it up. For a technical perspective it is disgusting, but from a marketting perspecting, it's exactly what I would do if I was them. TDFX's marketting folks need to respond (and hold similar "behind-the-scenes press events for Banshee!).

2.) Here's a post from the Motley Fool showing what one inspired sales clerk did in his store to sell more Voodoo boards.

It's _GREAT_ to hear how effective this demo is/was. It's sad that he had to take his own initiative to do this. Later in that thread are tales of store managers forbidding employees from setting up similar demos on their own.

My point is that TDFX needs to bolster the Voodoo2 from a marketting perspective in order to continue strong sales moving forward. The real impact of all this competition is just starting. All of the "early adopters" have Voodoo2 cards by now. In-store demos and ads in more mainstream PC magazines - heck, even TV ads! - are required at this point to prevent Voodoo2 from being hyped off the map. Hopefully TDFX has a plan like this for keeping V2 sales strong until "Rampage" appears (6-8 months!). The good news is that TDFX has stated they will do more "branding" during the rest of this year - IMNSHO, here are two great approaches!
