Motley Fool suggests that AMZN bulls might want to "reassess" their expectations of the company since "at a certain price you can can get far ahead of intrinsic value".(!)

"Barnes & Noble is on the prowl...that being the case, investors might be overestimating the competitive position of Amazon down the road. To wit, the company may not be able toearn a super-normal return on invested capital for as many years as investors expect, especially in other retailing segments where receivables terms aren't set as irrationally and anachronistically as in the publishing industry. Amazon bulls should probably take stock here and reassess what they expect out of the company. It's a big wide world out there with lots of opportunities for Amazon to exploit, but at a certain price you can can get far ahead of intrinsic value."

EDIT: You beat me to it, David!

I wonder about Datek. Either they borrowed a huge block of shares from someone (I wonder if insiders would or could legally lend them a block) or if their MM is pulling something and doing them a favor? If they borrowed a big block and the lender decides to take it back, I believe their shorts will be forced to involuntarily cover if Datek can't replace the shares. That would be scary. -nfg-

Other brokerages may have made an internal decision not to allow further shorting, even if they do have a few shares available internally. Sort of a "customer service" decision so the above doesn't happen if they lose too many long shares.
