Wind River did not release financial details of its stock-for-stock transaction with Zinc, which the company plans to formally announce Tuesday. But a company spokesman said Wind River hopes to use Zinc Software to offer customers a customizable interface for use with printers, copiers, telephones and other devices.

Wind River shares were up as much as 6.5% as word of the acquisition spread among investors, the spokesman said. The stock closed at 36 1/2 after a gain of 15/16, or 2.6%. Nasdaq volume was 589,000 shares, compared with average daily volume of 341,000.<<<<
