Not related to Diet Smith...

Derek Morgan writes about "the wristwatch telephone": I want one!

I do to, but the technical problem that needs to be solved is batteries, not making the rest of the electronics small enough. If you want a cell phone transmitter, with, say, a 1/2-watt effective transmitter (a little smaller than current handhelds, which are mostly 0.6 watts), you need a battery which will deliver sufficient current while its transmitting.

At the moment, nothing is small enough for watches. Many of us carry fairly heavy cellphones, because the little cute ones are too short-lived to be useful. Newer technologies (eg. CDMA) help a bit, by not running the transmitter all the time, but not enough.

It's an investment opportunity, if you can spot a new battery technology coming.... No, I don't have any ideas.
