. . .the key here is "purchased in the open market". . .you assume an infinite supply.

Troy, not quite sure what you question was, but if it had something to do with that ex-marine's credibility, there is no response that would be allowable on SI that could withstand the test.

On your other point, I think Mark specified the doubt that is out there.
