Intel Investors - Sun's New Workstations ---- Ain't Cheap!

For those who wonder why Intel's customers will willingly pay $1200 - $3600 per XEON processor, check out the price of two new workstations being introduced by Sun.

These "fast" 333 MHz Sparc machines start at $11,095 for ONE CPU and jumps to a "mere" $32,000 for a TWO-CPU system.

Intel XEONS at 400 MHz - with BUILT IN FULL SPEED L2 cache -look positively CHEAP in comparison!

Read about it below!

Sun Microsystems Tuesday plans to introduce a pair of high-end workstations designed to offer increased graphics performance at low prices.

Sun (company profile) will upgrade its Ultra 10 workstation to support a faster processor -- 333 MHz, compared with the existing 300 MHz -- and quadruple available cache from 512 kilobytes to 2 megabytes,
resulting in 25 percent improved performance, compared with the existing Ultra 10.

The system is priced at $11,095 with the Elite 3-D m3 graphics card, 128 MBs of memory, a 19-inch monitor and 4 GBs of hard disk space. The workstation supports up to 1 gigabyte of memory, and
includes 4 peripheral component interconnect slots, two hard-drive bays, and a CD-ROM drive.

Sun is also offering a new high-end workstation, the Ultra 450, which can support up to four processors and one or two advanced Elite 3-D m6 graphics cards.

Pricing is $32,865 for a two-processor system with 512 MBs of memory, two, 9-GB hard disk drives, and a 21-inch monitor. The system can support up to 4 GBs of memory and 18 GBs of hard disk space.

Both systems are scheduled to be available Tuesday.
