Well, it isn't really OT--these guys seem to have been pretty stupid. If you're in the art theft business, you really ought to have some idea how you're gonna sell what you steal before you steal it. Hang onto it too long and the carabinieri'll getcha. Apparently the police originally thought they might be "real" mafiosi, who wanted to exchange the pictures for a mob leader who's now languishing in prison, but now they seem to have decided they were just common or garden variety armed robbers. They really shoulda been more careful about those phone calls...
