This sounds like a solid answer.

Thanks,
Mike

Pat, I think you're right about the momentum players staying out of DELL in favor of the internets. However, I would add that there absence has only produced a lack of buyers, and that the selling is not rampant.

The long term holders of DELL are going to sit on their positions, while some investors trim their positions. When the buying returns, the supply will dry up (no significant selling, as now) and the price will shoot through the roof.

Frankly, I surprised that we're in the phase we're in right now. I would have thought that the stock would have been firm, at least.

I would expect the buying the return by Thursday at the latest.

Regards,

LoD

As there are momentum players and speculators, so are there momentum stocks and sectors. These stocks (of which Dell has been one) have guided the market upward until bad news (any bad news) caused a reality check/correction to hit. Hasn't this seemed to be a mid-month phenomenon, only to be followed by end-of-the-month rallies in our favorites-which are fewer in number as we speak? Seems to be an institutional scenario to me.

Patrick, Dell is going nowhere because it's last quarter's earnings report sent concerns through the money managers and analysts. I think they are taking a "wait and see" attitude until this quarter's earnings are released. IMO, Dell needs to show growing, or at least stable ASP's, and meet or exceed the Street's whisper number.

Patrick, I think you're right in your contention that DELL is not moving because the internet stocks have grabbed the attention of the momentum players. But it really doesn't matter unless you are a trader. I think we are seeing a greater fool game right now in the internet stocks. Some time ago I asked myself what kinds of profits would these companies need to generate to come close to justifying these prices. The numbers are in the realm of fantasyland. I'll try to dig some of them up and post them later.
