Competition? Not at all, 20 of the top 100 banks use Interpose today, which then use Interpose to feed CheckFree's engine. Could it be competition, sure, if they try to do it themselves.... surely there are enough failures to convince them otherwise; SSI, ISC, Visa Interactive, Smartpay and many others. Still some bright-eyed MIS guy within the bank could say, "Oh, we can do this stuff" without any understanding of the real costs. ie customer service is the biggest one. As an example, take any front-end software interface the customer/bank want to offer, have it feed the middleware (interpose) which pushes the bill payment information to CheckFree, voila' a new CheckFree customer is born.
