It's hard to fault AMAT as an investment here -- you pay a premium, but you have a lot more assurance that they'll still be in business in 5 years and still an industry leader. It can still go down (look at LAM, or even father back, the company that built the early furnaces, I can't remember the name), but you won't see total disaster like is possible with most of these. For example IPEC, as far as I can tell, could be bankrupt in the forseeable future.
