Scott,

Clearly the extra silicon in x86 processors is a liability for clock speed. Comparing the speeds of real x86 and RISC CPUs, it is clear however that the promise of massive performance improvement through RISC never materialized.

Soon PII will be running at 600+MHz. Alpha is the only RISC processor with a significant lead over Intel.
