Tony and thread,

Below are excerpts from today's Closing Market Commentary by Prudential's Larry Wachtel:

"The only major statement today came from Alcoa, which exceeded projections and was rewarded with a fractional gain. Motorola was strong, as investors looked ahead to results to come after the close. Semiconductor stocks flurried in the final hour after one technology house said the programmable logic chip makers will hit their quarters. This helped Altera to a 4 point gain, Xilinx to a 3 point gain and Lattice to a 2 point advance.

PS: The "technology house" being referred to is H&Q (analyst Rob Chaplinsky).

Hi Tony,

Re. Re Motorola, for some reason, I don't think of them anymore when I think of High Techs

I am willing to let Rotomola to keep the "high tech" label only because of its Iridium connections. Otherwise, it's as low as the disk drive cos or perhaps lower.
