Ann,

In the near future bandwidth will become much less of a concern and less expensive. One example, dense wavelength division multiplexing can take an optical fiber with approximately 2 GB of bandwidth and increase it to 100 GB. This technology is being deployed now. There are currently companies working on similar technologies for inter/intranets.

Other efforts are ongoing for expanding bandwidth on other inter/intranet mediums like coax or twisted pair. As with any information technology, as time goes by it will get more affordable, and when companies see money in it (which they will) they will jump at the chance to expand the info highway. Just my humble opinion.
