A Poster on the Network World Fusion site wants people to submit NOVL success stories to him. This request has been publisized by the NWFusion Weekly mailing. So I am re quoting his request to this board and the web site where anyone can post any known NOVL success stories (there a a few on there already and the request is only 1 day old)....

Great stories all folks. But frankly, I'm tired of hearing about Novell's bad marketing.
Novell is almost always compared to Microsoft on this point and that comparison strikes
me as just as irrelevant as most NetWare vs. NT stories. Microsoft is a consumer
products firm - first and foremost. Five years ago with the shipment of NT MS began
leveraging its brand name into the back office. Nevertheless it remains the Proctor &
Gamble of the industry. For Novell to imitate MS on this front would be a miserable waste
of time and money better dedicated to other objectives. Consumers could not care less
about how easy NDS and NetWare make it for network ADMINISTRATORS to do our
jobs. All steak, no sizzle. MS = Much sizzle, some steak. The people who watch Seinfeld
and its reruns don't make the decision to buy NetWare. So why spend a fortune
advertising to them. Maybe on the Golf Channel ot at Golf tournaments. The U.S Open or
Wimbledon tennis matches perhaps. But anything else strikes me as money thrown at the
wrong target. Better to spend the money building a professional sales and marketing force
that talks to CIOs, CFOs and CEOs and convinces these folks that Novell can deliver
what they want: Great technology for controlling IS costs. From personal experience, I can
report that where they've done that well, they've made some huge scores. And, where the
decision-making is governed by the thought that no one gets fired for choosing Microsoft,
a multi-billion dollar advertising advertising and marketing campaign won't make a damn bit
of difference.
