Yeah Dirk,

I know what your talking about. My Inwin Case came with a single and double row connectors with all possible connectors but they were left un punched and then you could punch out the ones to match your mobo. For me the big dissapointment was two fold. Neither my Case nor MOBO came with the feet that your MOBO sits on. So I had to go beg borrow and steal those. Then I spent 1/2 hour mounting the motherboard just right and then realized that I forgot to install the backplate and had to take it all apart again and install the plate then re-insert the MOBO onto the tray. Argh :) The joys of building your own....

Dirk and All,

Interesting information on PII Motherboards.

I have learned a fair amount about PII Mobo's in the last few days.

I will recap my experience. All this is related to a Tyan S1692DL Mobo, Dual PII 300's mounted in an Inwin case.

1. DON'T INSTALL TYAN'S Bus Master Drivers for NT 4.0. Blue screen city was getting 4 or 5 a day. None in 48 hours since removal.

2. Had to call Tyan support to find out how to uninstall and asked them why I didn't hear any alarm when my CPU Fan died???

Answer: Does your MOBO have the LM78 chip. Some of this model and do and some don't. I later found out mine does. The LM78 is national semiconductor chip is a great gadget which monitors temp of the motherboard, CPU Fan RPM, and acutal voltage being produced by the ATX PS (+-12, +-5,+-3.3), PS fan speed, etc. I hope your ASUS has this. I wouldn't get one without it now that I have seen it work.

They never mentioned how to use it or what software to install.

I have been reading about Intel LAN Desk Client manager and DMI 2.0 and never really knew what it was used for.

I saw Lan Desk Client manager on the Tyan CD and installed it and presto all the sudden I can now monitor all the above things without needing any additioanl external alarms. Tyan's docs never pointed this out... So If your using an active cooling solution for PII and ATX case/PS you should definitely consider getting this and installing it when you put your system together. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration from the overheating crashes I was experiencing when BOTH my CPU Fans died.

BTW: BCM the motherboard diags people have a driver/monitor for the LM78 chip on their website as well.
