Chuzzlewit, It was great to get your response, thanks. Let's see if I can answer to your satisfaction. 1. Suspension of natural laws. The answer is found in our limited but growing understanding of physical laws. Two mew named Witten and Seiberg introduced a theory of a massive particle that had the potential to become massless. This theory solved a problem in the supersymmetry theory. Three men (Strominger, Greene and Morrison) expanded the theory and demonstrated that charged extremal black holes can transform into fundamental particles and vice versa. This concepts united several theories as a by product ("magnetic monopoles","ordinary strings","five-branes" ... etc) Strominger proved there can be gravity with no mass which sounds absurd but the theory states the mass of a particular black hole is proprtional to it's surface area. As this surface area become small enough, the mass becomes zero. Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity (E=mc squared) tells us that mass and energy are interchangeable. Einstein's General Theory of Relativity tells us that the curvature of space can become tight enough to accomplish this interchangeability. So we can actually have particle in space that have mass and don't have mass depending on the circumstances. The point is that PHYSICS is changing what we believe to be empirical laws, the Bible is not overriding them. Science is trying to discount the Bible but continually falls in line with the Bible. I believe science should be trying to discover how God created things, but instead it is trying with no avail to discount the Bible. Physics is a perfect example of my point. To reiterate, I believe that God could have used a Big Bang theory to create all things. That belief comfortably coexists with my belief in the Bible and beautifully marries my faith and scientific knowledge together. 2. Oceanfish. Noah did know what was a clean animal for sacrifice. 'Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it' - GEN 9:20 You are referring to the clean and unclean animals in reference to the Levitical Laws and the priesthood of Aaron which wouldn't be defined for a long time after Noah. Your reference point is incorrect. If I made the following two statements, a person would define one as being false. a. New York and Los Angeles are 2500 miles apart. b. New York and Los Angeles are 2300 miles apart. In reality both statements are correct. Using non-Euclidian (arc) geometry we fly an airplane across the curved (arc) surface of the earth the distance between the two cities is 2500 miles. If we use Euclidian (plane) geometry, the distance between the cities is measured by a line through the earth. That line will be shorter than the 2500 mile distance we travelled in the airplane. It's a simple matter of perspective. I understand your quandary over fresh and salt water dwelling fish and do not have a scientific answer, but I rely on the Biblical account and answer the puzzle with your own words. "There is simply no reason to believe that the organisms living today existed in exactly their current form at an arbitrarily selected date some 6000 years ago". 3. Inbreeding from Noah and the genetic problem. I understand your problem here also, but whether we stand on the Biblical account or genetics African Eve theory we still have the same problem with inbreeding. 4. Conservation of mass (Noah's flood water) First off again we are assuming the earth looked exactly the same at the time of the flood as it does now, that is probably not the case. Let's look at the creation event: And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water". So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. So God called the expanse "sky". - GEN 1:6 It's obvious that God created a canopy of water above the earth and great water reserves below. Now, let's look at the flood event: In the six hundreth year of Noahs life, on the seventeenth day of the second month - on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. - GEN 7:11-12 First, the canopy encircling the earth would have created a greenhouse effect on the earth and there would be no polar caps. Science now is afraid of the floods created by the polar caps melting with what they call the greenhouse effect caused by pollutants. Geology supports the idea of liquid reserves beneath the crust through Plate Techtonics and mid-oceanic rifts. Second, such a tremendously violent outpouring of water would certainly have drastically changed the geological landscape. Ocean depths in the Marinas Trench are in excess of 35,000 feet. Between the changing landscape, the ocean depths and the polar caps, I propose that Noahs water is still here. I hope I've addressed your questions to your satisfaction. In conclusion, let's revisit your final statement. The Bible is not full of impossibilities within the laws of nature. We simply understand an extremely small percentage of the natural laws. In addition, God created those laws and can override them if need be. The most wonderful example is how he circumvented conventionalism in dealing with His perfect penal codes. His laws say that when a person sins (as we all do) we are separated from Him and must pay the penalty for those sins. Only through Israel's promised Messiah is the punishment due us removed from us and placed on Him. In this case I'm VERY glad that God circumvented the natural way to pay for sins. That natural way would have left me condemned to pay in hell. He paid the penalty that I could not pay. There are hundreds of Old testament prophecies pointing to Jesus Christ as Israel's promised Messiah, so I have to believe it. Since my believing this FACT, my life has never made more sense or been so rewarding. What are your spiritual beliefs?
