Zeus,

The Caddy alone would make me ditch the 8x. I am so glad plextor now makes tray loading CD's.

Check out the software reviews on some of the sites I pointed out. Many claim to do DAO correctly very few do. Even the Adaptec Software has some bugs in the this respect. I don't want to overwhelm you until you get your feet wet.

Adaptec CD Creator NEVER hangs and it NEVER burns coasters for me. I can play quake on a P133 and burn a CD in the background. No other software in existance can perform this task. I have have burned over 600 cd's with it. Highly recommended...

Sean

>>To my knowledge these are not multisession discs.

Sorry, ZP, that was my silly speculation, not ever
very likely (as I think I warned).

Anything physical is very likely to be due to something
physical. CDs are not balanced well because they don't
spin that fast, so my more leisurely guess is the CD
physical characteristics. Look at the CDs that fail:
Do they have a thick side and a thin side? Many do,
I find. This is still pure speculation.

One other point: Are these audio or data CDs? Audios
have more variation in my experience.

Anyhow, either way, what are you keeping that crummy
Plextor for when it won't even play your CDs? <GG>
That IS a joke, sort of, but with a serious core.
8x is mouse nuts nowadays, so why can't the damn thing
work?
