It helps certainly, but I think we should ask whether it's a band-aid.

It will be interesting to see whether Gateway's latest foray into the consumer market takes off. If it does CPQ may be caught in THE SQUEEZE. This is a pincer-like movement in which pressure is applied from the left and the right. In the commercial market greater pressure than ever will be applied by Dell, whose 50% growth rate is an ominous sign of trouble for CPQ. In the retail market, CPQ is in for rough days ahead as Gateway applies pressure, assuming it's new BTO Country Store model takes off. Going up against more efficient models in both markets, CPQ may get caught in the middle.

Pincer movements can be fatal.
