joe,

Your probably right about the modem wars contributing significantly to the channel problem, but I am not sure 3Com's due diligence really knew what was in the channel since they just announce recently that they finally can track the channels. I have been an auditor and the channel inventory issue is a real accounting issue if the company does not have tools to track. I think Eric is extremely bright, look at 3Com's performance not the last 18 months but the last 5 years. I think he saw the entry into modems and palm pilot as the reason to buy. My opinion is that Palm III has alot going for it right now, especially with voice and data converge and Siemens partnership, this could turn out to be extremely profitable if executed. I know the modems were sold and not from 3Com because the company I work for put them up for sale. We are a small company and are selling alot of modems this summer (unfortunately not just 3Com).
