I tried to install Windows 98 on my 386 66 Mhz PC and could not get it to work again. Could not reinstall a operating system either?

Anyway I bought a Compaq Presario 5635 at Price/Costco. Seems pretty trick. And I thought my next system would be custom built. It cost less than systems with less features advertised at Dell, etc.

There is a review of the a similar model in Boot magazine ( minus the flat screen monitor and Diamond Monster II video adapter).

Also the motherboard has two IEEE 1394 ports, and 128 Meg of Ram installed. Haven't seen any motherboard with IEEE 1394 ports in Computer Shopper yet.

The documentation is less than I would like. I think it has a 8 Meg ATI Rage Pro LT or something.

Anyway does anyone know where I can get technical manuals or info. on the Motherboard and video card in this box?

Thanks.

I was searching for a good system for my girlfriend for the past month or so and settled on a steal of a deal at Circuit City for a Compaq Presario 4640, PII, 266mhz, 48mg, 4gig, DVD, etc, for less than $800! I got that price less than 4 days after canvassing area stores and receiving a quote of at least $1299 at all of them for this model! I hadn't seen any PII's under a grand with all the bells and whistles, and was woried that I might have to settle for a "yucky" AMD (girlfriends word) or worse yet, a stripped down PII called the Celeron!

After a week of trying to play one store against the other, it quickly became obvious that I was the beneficiary of CPQ's inventory glut and that they had worked through at least 90% of that glut by last week when I bought. I would find one or two of the 4600 or 4800 series at a particular store, then they would be sold a day or two later. There was no inter-store trading or forwarding going on because they were so hard to come by. In the end, there were no CPQ models available at CC because they had sold out all in inventory and were waiting on the 5000 series to come in pre-loaded with Win98!

I mention this because I expect to see this quarters number to be the last quarter that the inventory glut will be affecting! I've heard lots of people say they expect this to continue into the 3rd quarter...don't count on it!

CPQ HEADING INTO THE MID-UPPER 30'S WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH!!!
