Craig,

Try going into that directory with metastock and try opening a chart. It should give you an error and an option to proceed with some message like only do this is metastock crashed. After this exit from Metastock gracefully and try again. All should be well...

Sean

Restoring from the backup is probably the fastest way.
Always backup 'qp2data' and your real MetaStock data.
I've reported 3 different instances of corruption to my
Metastock data since the roll out of QP2 a month ago.
The latest build seems to fix all my data corruption problems.
However, I continue to do backup. I don't want a minor
bug wiping out all trend lines & memo on my MetaStock
charts.

From the help file of QP2:
Quotes Plus creates the following directories on your hard drive:

QUOTPLS2 This directory is created at installation, and contains the program files from the Quotes Plus CD. You do not need back it up; you can always rebuild it by re-installing from the installation CD.

DISKBUFF This directory is created when you use the Disk Buffer. It contains data you select to copy from the CD to your hard drive. The size of the disk buffer depends on how much data you decide to copy. Copying the entire CD would require the 120 megabytes for stock data, and 70 megabytes for data on mutual funds. You can delete this directory at any time and rebuild it by running the CD ROM configuration program.

QP2DATA This directory contains the current data files and will change every time you download from Quotes Plus. This directory initially requires about 90 megabytes of space on your hard drive and will grow as you keep downloading. It is very important that you back up this directory and restore it in the event of a hard drive crash or other catastrophe. The data files from this directory are only stored for about 6 weeks on the BBS or the Internet site. If you can't restore this data from a backup and your CD is more than six weeks old, the only way to get the missing data is to purchase an updated CD. For more information about using the data CD, see Creating a Disk Buffer.

it is just the metastock way of not closing a directory if there was a crash while open. It does it all the time, no matter what data vendor you use. Never have a charting program open when you are downloading. If it crashes(?) during download just delete file and start over. Sean's response is first step. As for corrupted data, I have never seen any after 11 months of using QP2. Backups are good sense, I wish I did them. I have tape and zip drives gathering dust.

I agree with Richard's diagnosis, Craig.
Haven't had MStk lock dirs recently, but it used to be frequent enough that I would manually intercede by deleting a couple of temp files and resetting master and emaster from read only.

Thanks to all - Before I posted to SI I had already tried Sean's solution twice with no effect. After reading the postings I tried it again and it worked. Computers are logical...right?! Thanks again.
