Robert: I'll just transfer the posts over from the other site-- ignore this one- its just to put our chit chat on the Palmer record where it belongs. Cheers Tom D.

Tom:
Look at at the MDS Nordion web site for "Red Tag."

Cabrillo may have something here.

Robert-- Thxs-- good stuff. Simple neat product. The RAD in Rad Tag stands for radiation-- irradiated by Cobalt 60 gamma rays to purify the blood of toxic hebee geebees ( as my Dad used to say).

Good, simple easy to use-- great in this day and age of AIDS, Hepatitis A B C ...X.

My issue is How Many. Market analysis needed to understand. The critical path here is getting the blood to a cobalt 60 irradiator site from the giving of blood site. These Irradiators are at most hospitals, a few clinics , a few regional irradiation centres ( USA ) and of course at Kanata ( Ottawa). There are many around the world.

Transport of the collected blood and the ease of that will be the issue. The amount of radiation is just a function of the time you leave the blood in the Co60 beam-- seconds to minute( probably)-- depends on the strength of the Cobalt 60 itself.

Hope management gives us the dope(sorry) on the 14 July 98.
Gut is that it will start in US and Canada and then spread to those countries that have Cobalt Irradiators. Maybe MDS/Nordion's game is to use this Rad Tag product as a way of selling more Cobalt 60 machines and the Co60 itself.

Lets say( pure guess on my part ) that Corbillo gets 1$ Cdn per zapped unit. Then the game is how many units are zapped and what is the margin per unit-- all times the % ownership that PMD has of Corbillo(cant remember).

Thxs for pointing out the website.

Tom D.

I think the US FDA is requiring all blood products to be irradiated.
I've been told that if blood is irradiated too much it becomes toxic, so the ability of an emergency room doctor, in the "heat of battle" to just by site look at a unit of blood and know that it has been irradiated and how much it has been irradiated is important for safety and legal reasons.

If the product is liked by doctors and hospitals, there is a cookie cutter aspect with respect to repeat sales.

Robert: If Irradiation of Blood or Blood products is required by the FDA-- then great. You sure can't 'see' the effects of radiation on a product like this at the levels used-- therefore the peek a boo colour change window to see what range of dose that the blood actually received-- more or less than 50 GJ's or whatever. The colour change is then a surrogate for the dose received.

Let me use the extreme example-- if you super zapped blood- you would basically char it-- ie deadsville. Then you would see a change. All the Doctor will want to see is the certificate of authentecation about what was done to it, verification of safety in transport and storage and then the colour change on the plastic bag at the time of point of use

Darn right the cookie cutter is at work here-- just don't know yet how many cookies we gotta but in the old cookie jar. Management ? s'il vous plait! Some #'s please.
