Chris,

I have no special knowledge in the smart card area, but just basing what you've said against what's in the book, you could view the market as a developing king-prince-serf. The book points out that you can make lots of money in these kinds of stocks (that don't have proprietary standards or high barriers to entry), but that you should sell them more easily than you would the gorilla type stock.

The king in this kind of market is king through superior execution, (like a DELL), and superior execution is always open to challenge.

FWIW, I think smart cards in the U.S. will have a lot of marketing to do to gain acceptance. (I understand they're more popular overseas). Everywhere I shop accepts credit cards and debit cards, and the dollar bill changers make it easy for me to make change at snack machines. I'd be interested to hear why you think the smart card market is poised to take off, because I don't see the need at present.
