NH>It seems that wstl has custom catered a product line for BEL. I mean why would wstl develop a CAP/DMT DSLAM with everyone in the Industry doing DMT???<

EG>I don't think it was custom catered for BEL. Originally it was for all potential customers to start with CAP and later migrate. I think the DOC is right, DMT did not come as fast as it was hyped leaving Westell out in the cold<

Eric; I think you're right on the money. CAP to DMT is the most logical upgrade path as CAP is readily deployable & available in low power, low cost & quantities now. Cisco is also using this strategy. Their DSLAM supports CAP & DMT and has the capability to "hot swap" CAP cards for DMT to provide an upgrade path when they decide to migrate to DMT.

eric--

i guess it is better to overestimate a competitor than underestimate one, but your taking the ALA thing to far; i could cobble together 6k modems<G>.

if BEL is planning on announcing a DMT path in august/sept. timeframe i dont see how ALA is going to be able to take it from WSTL. they simply do not have enough time to engineer a solution. unless...they have been covertly working on one for a while and buying DSC was the last step. of course, a LU/WSTL bid could also win<G>.

good luck to all,
trey
