Metro One's Database Retrieval Software Now Offers Cross-Platform Support With Java(TM) and COM/DCOM Services
Developers of Electronic Commerce and Web Applications to Benefit From The Ease of Integration Using db-ONE's Component Architecture
FAIRPORT, N.Y., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro One Telecommunications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTON - news), today announced that db-ONE(TM), its high performance database software solutions package, is now available with open, cross-platform interfaces, which enables customers to access db-ONE's powerful search engine from Java applets and applications, Active Server Pages, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Visual C++ and any other development environment which supports the Active X/COM standards.
''Providing standard interfaces to db-ONE is a logical move toward offering our customers a range of development environments,'' said Mike McCourt, vice president of Metro One's Database Software Division. ''Developers can now easily integrate the db-ONE full-text search backend engine into their applications, knowing it has the flexibility and scalability to accommodate future growth.''
Metro One's db-ONE is a database software solution that provides simple, accurate and extremely rapid retrieval of information from large structured textual databases in the Internet and intranet environments. With a powerful full text search engine that supports Boolean, wildcarding, fast prefix, radius, numeric and phonetic searches, db-ONE is constructed to provide subsecond data retrieval solutions for Internet directories and catalogs, as well as electronic commerce and VAR applications that require high-speed access.
''The componentized db-ONE system from Metro One was very easy to integrate into our client-server production system -- we were up and running in a matter of days,'' said Naveen Jain, President and CEO of InfoSpace. ''Because we're committed to providing our users with unparalleled access to information, we need tools that are not only powerful, but that can be implemented quickly. The db-ONE database system is both.''
The db-ONE database component is a ready-to-run package of code that gets dynamically linked and loaded into an application. The Component Object Model (COM) supports interoperability and reusability of distributed objects, allowing developers to build systems by assembling reusable components from different vendors which communicate via COM. Distributed COM (DCOM) permits network-based interaction of components.
Fully scalable, db-ONE is available for Windows NT(R) and Solaris(R). Metro One uses db-ONE as the database engine driving its Enhanced Directory Assistance(R) system, which provides subsecond response to operators at call centers across the country.
