From the August 1997 GQ profile of James Cramer:

 Year    Cramer    S&P 500
===========================
1988 +28% +16%
1989 +45% +31%
1990 +12% -7%
1991 +37% +26%
1992 +23% +5%
1993 +26% +7%
1994 +2% -2%
1995 +60% +34%
1996 +28% +20%

The article did not specify what the "Cramer" numbers referred to. I suspect it is their return before fees. According to these numbers, they have beaten the market every year, not just most years. The discrepancy probably arises from the choice of index. They beat the S&P 500 handily every year, but barely edged out the DJIA in 1994 and 1996. Perhaps, after taking out the fees, they did not beat the DJIA those years. Rumor has it they gained 47% last year, again beating the indices. Since Cramer is long YHOO and AOL, we know he's whipping the indices this year. <g>
