For those soccer fans around here, I thought the following deserved a nomination.

This particular game must have been for a Caribbean Cup of sorts, I am not really sure, supposedly it really happened. If so, it must have been quite a sight...

Owngoal - Barbados -Vs- Grenada

It concerns a match played last weekend between Barbados and Grenada in some cup competition. Barbados needed to win the game by two clear goals in order to progress to the next round.

Now the trouble was caused by a daft rule in the competition which stated that in the event of a game going to penalty kicks, the winner would be awarded a 2-0 victory. (Yes, I'm sure you can all see what's coming....)

With 5 minutes to go, Barbados were leading 2-1 and going out of the tournament. Then, when they realized they were probably not going to score against Grenada's massed defence, they turned around, and deliberately scored an own goal, to level the scores.

Grenada, themselves not being stupid, realized what was going on, and then attempted to score an own goal themselves. However, the Barbados players started defending their opponents goal to prevent this.

In the last five minutes, therefore, spectators were treated to the incredible sight of a team defending their opponents goal against attackers desperately trying to score an own goal! Naturally, the game went to penalties, which Barbados won...

This story is completely true, I assure you. Apparently it was being televised live, so I hope to see highlights of it soon!

Well it makes a change from slagging other teams off!

Henry, I am sorry to see the Dutch team lose to the Brazilians, as I know you wanted the Dutch to win...but on the other hand Brazil is my favorite to win the cup so for me it was a good result. I believe we saw the cup final in that game. (although I hope I am wrong).

Holland will take third, regardless who they play against on Saturday.

Golfinger was/is a little p/o at the referees..... and thinks the whole damned things is a rigged game by FIFA in a South American conspiracy of sorts.....

I doubt that as I believe the only conspiracy the South Americans are capable of is against their own self interest. (in general it is a Latin gene that causes such behavior, of course my opinion only).

As for Emile.... I believe the man is indeed dangerous, I have seen his kind far too close and what they are capable of to feel at ease with his type.

While the strategy of the "dipped celery" is fair, one must always keep an open and vigil eye, as when the proper moment comes, (and believe me they know when such moment arrives), they will strike with vengance, imagine a compressed coil being released.... that is how they react.

The Internet, amongst the many benefits it possess, creates a venting forum to their credo, at the same time, it also identifies and exposes these wackos for what they are.... sooner or later. However, the risk always exists for even greater morons to believe and follow their crap.

Anyway, this is getting too serious for this wonderful thread, so never mind...
