I think this product is more than Compaq's biometric on-off switch, although I could be wrong: "The Simony series products can ensure security for local area networks which use the Techno Imagica fingerprint identification server as a core product, and can help control access to in-house databases, when it is connected to a personal computer." It could be more comparable to the IDX Touchsafe, which is presently well over the $500-600 price. However, I think that IDX is shortly coming out with its new generation product, Touchsafe II, which will have an optical sensor (i.e., better quality) and probably be competitive in price. Pricing hasn't been announced, though.
