mmeggs:

I recall that the political fires were being fanned Hughes' way. Hughes pushed pretty hard to get Commerce as the authority on satellite transfer. Old news to us perhaps but the Politicals tend to dredge old news and scream how shocked they are that this type of thing goes on. Never mind they were all part of it, it just serves their purpose at the time.

Next big opportunity for us to pour beer on your head is the annual shareholders meeting. If you feel this is too far away, fill free to spill beer on yourself at any time. (I have used this excuse before and it appears to work)

Welcome aboard.

There was a call this morning to explain the situation at GMH. From the look of things, it must have been underwhelming. The fact that the DBS 1 is operating on a redundant system is not that reassuring. There are redundant systems all over a sat, but they ideally would NEVER be used. The HS 601 problem may involve a defective part in both the primary and backup systems. We may not get a definitive answer because you just can't go up there and look. It may all be coincidental, and the sats in question will function fine with the redundant systems. Orion 1 has 9 transponders operating in this manner and they have been for awhile. On the other hand, worst case would be a systemic problem affecting all HS 601s. We shall see.

I too wish to welecome you aboard and just to show you my appreciation for your future posts, I am going to pour beer over my head tonight. I just might try to pick off a few drops. Bernie is in Sun Valley Idaho (2 hrs from me)today to the Allen Group conference. Maybe I can run over there and hoist one with him.
