Imho, re-1: yes, split is a given

re-2: I think the traffic has been very good last quarter, even when compared to the previous quarter ... this is just from this fundamental grass root observation:

(even though much has been said here about how we do not click on their banners): in my local library this summer, after the school was out, there are free Netscape classes held, to teach youngsters how to browse etc. and guess what, knowing the technical competency level of her audience, for 1 hour, the instructor simply tells them how to navigate the organized information sites of Yahoo ... and let them explore the site on their own for about half an hour in "hands-on" category. Curious to guess what the earnings might be this quarter,
I stood behind such students to observe what they actually land up doing ... and everyone seems to be clicking-away on those banners at their hearts desire! May not be much interested in info there as such, they just want to see if something "interesting" emerges, if they keep on clicking. Granted these do not generate any revenue for the ultimate provider, our yhoo keeps on collecting at every click in the interim. And there are so many libraries all over the country
running all these browser classes, and all those young citizens generating enormous summer traffic! You get the picture. (Last year this was not operational at this huge scale).

All imho ... may be trivial info, so take it what its worth!

regards to all,
-/Sonny.
