Bid Daddy,
but what is the impact on computer sales?

The reports I've seen say that Win98 created an order backlog
in PC's, as customers delayed PC orders, so they could have
the new (full of bugs) Win98 OS installed. Not a prob - MSFT
creates a patch release, just in time for the XMAS buying season.

PC sales are largely a function of prosperity: as long as
folks are making big bucks on their stocks, and interest rates
stay low, there's no reason to expect a big slow down. I don't
think the US PC box makers had a lot of sales in Asia ... Asia
has local clone makers over there that do just fine. PC sales growth
rate is about 15% more/less. Asia crisis has dropped the prices
of chips and assemblies ... so margins should do just fine. DELL
is the stand out ... Compaq is still figuring out how to digest
recent acquisitions.
