Hi Christine, I know that there is at least one quote in there that the wrong wingers here would say "amen" to...
"There are many whose mouths must be stopped." Titus 1:10,11

You have produced a fairly comprehensive list of never-heard or discussed Bible verses, but alas, you have missed some.

"If he offers a bird as a holocaust to the Lord, he shall choose a turtledove or a pigeon as his offering. Having brought it to the alter where it is to be burned, the priest shall snap it's head loose and squeeze out it's blood against the alter. It's crop and feathers shall be removed and thrown on the ash heap at the East side of the alter. Then, after having split the bird down the middle without separating the halves, the priest shall burn it on the alter, over the wood on the fire, as a holocaust,a sweet smelling oblation to the Lord." Lev. 1,14

Gee, it seems to me that from time to time I hear about the police discovering a group of teenagers doing something similar to this, and it's invariably blamed on Satanism. Maybe we shouldn't let our children be exposed to this kind of crap. Maybe we should ban the Bible from our schools.

"The Lord said to Moses, "Speak to Aaron and tell him: None of your descendents, of whatever generation, who has any defect shall come forward to offer up the food of his God. Therefore, he who has any of the following defects may not come forward: he who is blind, or lame, or has any disfigurement of malformation, or a crippled foot or hand, or who is humpbacked or weakly or walleyed, or is afflicted with eczema, ringworm, or hernia..." Lev. 21,16

Maybe somebody can help me here. I'm confused. Wasn't god supposed to have created those poor souls with those conditions, but now he is disgusted with them?

I see the response here is about the same as what I see in the media, and the public at large. They ignore all of this stuff and refuse to discuss it sensibly, while pretending that it is a beautiful book, and the source of all morality.

I view the Bible as mythology written by men who wanted to control people by taking advantage of their great fear of suffering and dying. You can see how it works by reading Emile's posts. He is obsessed by it. It controls every one of his thoughts.

I find the Bible disgusting trash. If I was to say this in a 3D public forum, I would probably be beaten to a pulp. Isn't the Internet great?

Del

Christine and Delbert,

This thread made the hot list a couple of days ago, and since I was bored I thought I'd take a peek.

I noticed that you both had somehow gotten into a discussion of "Bible verses you never hear in church" with Emile. I do think discussing the Bible is a good thing, but I noticed that many of the verses quoted by you both were taken out of context to a great extent. I do admit that some of the verses you both bring up are good things to question. I'm sure there are numerous web sites out there discussing the exact verses you bring up if you are interested. There is a lot of history surrounding the time period of the Old Testament that is needed to understand it.

It seems easy to pick on the Bible/God on a public forum with few Christians. I sometimes happen upon them and see Emile there first. I believe he is sometimes misunderstood by Christians and non-Christians alike, but I think he's well meaning on the whole.

Why do I bother to post? I believe Christianity is the Truth of life. If a person reads enough posts about the Bible or God that demean either, I think that the person will end up being brainwashed to a degree without a contrasting view. I want this post to be the contrasting view stating that there is more to the Bible than a few verses taken out of context without the historical background understood.

God bless all,

Grant
