if AMAT reports stronger than expected, buy now. If AMAT reports at or below expectations, don't buy yet. The Motorola story suggests the advantage of lowering expectations so you can look good beating them. If that lesson hasn't been lost on other semi and semi equip companies, I think we may be seeing very conservative forward expectations that provide lower hurdles. It provides a way of looking good by not looking so bad. Once it looks like the companies will be beating rather than missing estimates, there may be more confidence in buying them. Baird
