Valueman: Thanks for the Hughes situation update and congratulations on your "new addition".

As the father of a 15 year old daughter and an 18 year old son, let me assure you that you will likely look back on the "cash negative" segment of babyhood with fondness a decade and a half from now.

Raising children is full of excitement, surprise, mystery, expense, emotion, .... . One of the latest mysteries in our house recently was the sudden cessation of that song well known to parents of teenagers everywhere. It's called, "You Just Wait Until I Turn Eighteen ..." and is sung with a tone of veiled threat of moving to The West Coast. My response was usually to point out that the local supermarket had flavored ramin noodles on sale for 15 cents a package and he might want to pick up a coupla' cases to take with him.

The mystery is that the incessant singing of this song ceased abruptly on my sons 18th birthday. It seems to have been replaced with queries such as, "You mean you have to pay to have cable tv at your house?"

I guarantee that fatherhood will keep you on your toes and you'll notice a little arthritis in your elbow. That'll be from constantly reaching into your back pocket to pull out your wallet; sorta' carpul tunnel-like.

You'll do great and you'll have a blast. Best wishes to you and your family. ...Tim ; )

Congrats from me as well on the new Valuegirl. <gg>

After going back and pulling up about 10 of your most recent posts (which I had missed due to travels), I still haven't seen your announcement. But I take JMD's hosanahs as Gospel, so far as progeny is concerned.

All the best.

Doug
