i am still watching. from what i can imagine, they were unable to get financing due to the track record in KAZ. This country really has its act together. I hope that merger wasn't a last ditch effort to blow off stock for management.

PS: Mr. Menzies:

thanks for the fax promo on your company you sent to me over a year ago. I never took the bait because i hate KAZ and you always struck me more as a stock jockey than a CEO. I hope you got off enough stock to make the deal worth while. When is the next fax coming?

Canadian Market News from Market News Publishing, Wednesday, July 08, 1998 at 08:27

John Menzies, President of Steppe Gold Resources Limited (the
"Company") advises that a cease trade order was issued by the Ontario
Securities Commission, due to the delay in filing audited financial
statements for the year ended December 31, 1997 and unaudited statements
for the quarter ended March 31, 1998.
The Company's 1997 audit is presently in progress and completion is
expected before the end of July 1998. At that time the Company will seek
to have its trading privileges reinstated.
The Company continues with its principal objective of the development
of the Mizek gold project and the evaluation of the Kosmurun and Akastau
copper-gold-zinc massive sulphide deposits close to Mizek.

I have been a follower of this stock for some time now, having bought
some in the mid 30 cents area almost a year ago. I was apprehensive
about owning a VSE stock operating in Kazakstan naturally, but was
impressed by John Menzies and his relationship with users on this
thread. Before the recent financing debacle, the ever ubiquitous John
would offer witty quips and assure everyone that all was processing
excellently.

Then the wheels fell off the wagon, and suddenly the ever present
(when compliments were dished out) John disappeared from this thread
when serious questions were raised. Now I accept that this investment
was always a speculative one, and the cease-trade (and I believe
subsequent de-listing) probably shouldn't surprise.

What does surprise though, is that John should vanish like the aptly
phrased 'thief in the night'. Anyone can be humble and chatty when
the hyperboles are flowing John, but your recent lack of
contribution (and I'm sure you still read this) speaks volumes about
your character.

As I said earlier, I see no valid reason why we should believe in you
or your company, and I think de-listing is not a matter of whether,
but when. If you have any rationale that suggests otherwise, prove
that you are not as weak in character as I suspect, and address all
holders of this stock on this thread and tell us otherwise. I'm not
holding my breath John .........
