OK, educate me - who puts out "the" whisper number ? I guess I don't understand the chain of influence. Let's say 'the' whisper number has significant influence. Influence, to me, means that not meeting the whisper number moves some 'official' analysts to alter their recommendations. But presumably they had made their own 'official' projection, and if stock X meets this projection, what leads them to care if it doesn't meet some whisper number? I couldn't think of a shorter way to put it. Hmmm, I think the whisper number should be, uh, .46.
