Justa: Re: Brinker does not make market forecasts two to five years in advance. I understand very clearly that Brinker doesn't make market forecast two to five years in advance, but he does say that if his proprietary timing model forecasts a prolonged bear market (like the one in the early '70s) he believes the proper action to take would be to invest in a money market, go short, buy puts, sell S&P futures short, or one other strategy that I can't think of right now. So what would be the proper action to take in a "sideways" market according to Brinker? I would imagine that if in fact the model does forecast such a move, that it would begin similar to the bear call, an intermediate correction first then the bear forecast. Maybe it would forecast no upside potential, but limited downside risk for the next few months and stay that way for 2-5 years. Just a guess... Re: What difference would a Brinker market projection make to you anyway? No difference at all. I don't believe anyone can successfully time the market. I wouldn't sell a single share of my Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund if Brinker issued a sell signal. Having said that, I don't believe that I should stop pursuing additional knowledge simply because market timing has been shown to be a futile exercise. Besides I've learned plenty from listening to the "Brink". (ie. indexing, tax-efficiency, recognizing shark bait, critical mass, most mutual fund managers under-perform their benchmarks, etc.) Re: Did you forget about this post: Subject: Re: Brinker Date: Mon, Dec 8, 1997 17:25 EST From: Rillinois Message-id: <19971208222501.RAA11298@ladder02.news.aol.com> GARDESIGN, Like I said before... Ooops, I used the real AOL member name for "JOE". No, I haven't forgotten, Justa. But maybe you have. You already asked me about this before and I already responded to you about it. Don't you remember?Message 4376693 And here was my response...Message 4419243 Perhaps you and don lane suffer from the same brain disorder. BTW, you once alleged that I sent unsolicited harassing e-mails to members of AOL. I deny this allegation completely. You may have been confused then too. <g> You see, when you respond to a post on AOL, e-mailing the author of the post is possible similar to how we get private messages when someone responds to our posts. Are things clearer now? <g> You are far from being Columbo or Kojak, but hey keep trying...you are bound to find a successful career yet. Law is out because your logic is worthless. Statistics is out because you would poll your family to find out what % of the population loves you. And Psychiatry is out because you simply diagnose people as suffering from the same thing that is traumatizing your own life. Re: Did you get the information you need on the exact dates of purchase? I'm glad to say that I have gotten a lot of new information. More than I ever thought I could get. I still don't know whether the VOD recommendation was made in February or October of 1989? Do you know? It does make a difference what date I use when calculating the benchmarks performance. Re: I am waiting on the edge of my seat re that MSFT and VOD analysis. Ah, sarcasm. Rest assured, I will eventually post my analysis, but I really don't understand why you and don lane believe I'm trying to cover up these recommendations from coming out. I mean, I am a sole voice through out the internet and Bob is on the air telling his listeners about MSFT every other weekend on numerous 50,000 watt blow-torches. People have heard about Bob's MSFT recommendation at $3 3/4 in 1990, Justa. Even if they haven't heard it on the radio, don lane is on this thread telling us about MSFT virtually every post. What don lane isn't telling us about is OnTrack Systems, Gabelli Equity Trust, Morgan Stanley Emerging Markets, and Scudder New Asia. All official MARKETIMER recommendations. But hey, what does don lane have to hide? Re: But maybe you need to know the exact time of day when Brinker thought of the recommendations as well? No, not really. But be careful, Justa. You are starting to sound illogical again. Breathe deeply. <g> Best Regards. Rillinois P.S. Justa, I'm flattered by your constant attention, but I think it's about time we use this thread to discuss issues related to Bob Brinker and not Rillinois. If you still wish to discuss me that's fine, I'm just starting to think that I don't deserve this much attention from one person. You aren't trying to hit on me are you? You know, like the kids in kindergarten. They tease the people they really have a crush on. Hey, wait a minute, you don't even know what sex I am...you are sick, you're a pervert. <g> LOL
