How do you guys determine what stocks to play or watch prior to the open?

limit,
I think some people follow a group of stocks that they have become familiar with one way or another. Also through reading the news and other market stats, a stock can catch your attention.

Big Dog used to post here a bit, he loves the penny stocks and bulletin board stocks. (Personaly I wouldn't touch that stuff.) I know another trader who only trades Cisco, Mircosoft, Intel, and Dell. I would say I like technology stocks. Semiconductors are great for continuous ups and downs in the sector every few months. (Right now they are quite low) Networking is another sector I like to follow. And software.

I have historically stayed away from the big cap techs mentioned above because it seemed like I wouldn't be able to buy enough shares to make a good return. But I am starting to work with them. For example, Cisco** is up 24% in the last three weeks. That's not a bad return for a position trade where you hold it longer than one day. I am sure there are many ways people on this thread pick stocks and play them.

Good Luck, RS
