So if I dissolve some gold chloride in water and attempt to trap it in a resin it will not get trapped? These will be Au++ ions.
As far as I know gold forms a stable chloride?
Do you mean that the gold cations will reduce in the resin to metallic gold?

Please provide some refence data for these comments as we seem to be wandering afield and could be speaking at cross purposes.
