Some anecdotal info re Japan.

I was in Hawaii (Waikiki area) over the 4th and my subjective observation of tourism is that Japan continues to be largely absent, not a big surprise. The Aussies were there in noticeable numbers, and a bit larger American presence if my memory serves compared to several years ago. Did some casual shopping for investor grade transient condo. Talking to a property manager I got numbers that indicated an averaged occupancy ratio of less than 60% on a two star beach-front condo building on Waikiki for the past 6 months in the size of unit I was shopping. The sales price for the unit still seemed high and the sales people gave the impression that things were turning around starting to move, but I wasn't particularly convinced. They claimed that market segment bottomed about a year ago. Oh yeah, and the weather was great!

Stitch

How much was the GDP number revised????

OT

Sitting here "reaching" for the keyboard.....too many lobstas and
steamers....

Note: Locals in New England - So how bad is it really in Asia?
Will they be back on their feet by the beginning of the year??

As we have surmised in the past, Americans are not paying attention
to the goings on in Asia, at least those not involved on a daily
basis with Wall Street.

Stitch,

"By the way...just as an aside. Fairy tale metaphors are fine. But I believe it was Rapunzel that "let down her hair" rather then Goldilocks. Unless Goldilocks has grown up a bit since I was a kid. <G> "

Perhaps a few too many scotches got my thoughts on the wrong track. <g>

Now that you have mentioned, GOLDilocks did have a fun time running around the home of three BEARS, a very good methaphor for life around here these days. <UGH>

Cheers,
Lee
