I wasn't implying that it's a big problem waiting to happen. I only meant to distinguish between the two technologies. Bear in mind, however, that the only reason the cable companies haven't surged forward and deployed in more areas is because the telcos have been so slow to respond. And in many areas, even the cable companies that have deployed the service have done so on the cheap, and not provided for what you speakof. YET. Many are now going back and catching up with the infrastructure just now because they see the telcos finally getting going with ADSL.

I don't doubt that there will be capacity to handle the loads for a good while now. I just don't trust the cable companies to do anything to cater to the customer base unless they are forced to by competition. That's why cable service sucks, and rates are so high in so many areas. Most of them are locked in with a monopoly in their locales, aided by local governments who get a slice of every monthly bill. Few of them have been forced to put up or else. Now that the telcos are getting onboard, you will see a dramatic upswing in rollouts. Hopefully, WE will be the beneficiaries. HOPEFULLY.....
