Horrible news for Iomega -15 millionth Zip

Have any Iomega faithful paused to consider that this 15 million Zip announcement is a horrible event? It means that only 3 million drives have sold this first half of the year. It means that retail Zip sales are declining much more rapidly than what was believed, as OEM sales increase. But there is no overall increase in Zip sales from last year.

Very bad indeed. Consider that Iomega sold Zips at this same rate last year with a product mix much heavier in retail, and you get a recipe for financial disaster. The tie ratios are going to be wretched, as the same number of Zips are selling, only more to OEM's and less to retail.

But this is something that Bateh would like to not reveal, as it would get in the way of more "good news to all" drivel.
