MINNEAPOLIS, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Musicland Stores Corporation (NYSE: MLG) today said companywide comparable-store sales rose 5.8 percent for the five weeks ended July 4, 1998. The Superstores Division (Media Play and On Cue) posted a comparable-store sales increase of 7.1 percent; comparable-store sales for the Mall Stores Division (Sam Goody/Musicland and Suncoast Motion Picture Company) rose 5.2 percent.

Jack W. Eugster, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We're pleased with our June results and the strength of CDs and Digital Video Discs (DVD). Sales exceeded our expectations, led by strong results at Media Play, and capped off a good quarter for the company."
