Softbank says Yahoo! stake to rise to 31%

TOKYO, July 9 (Reuters) - Japan's Softbank Corp (9984.T) said on Wednesday that its stake in internet directory Yahoo! Inc (YHOO - news) would rise to 31 percent from a current 29 percent after its purchases new shares in the U.S. firm to be issued in a third-party allotment.
Softbank, already the biggest shareholder in Yahoo!, said it plans to buy 1.36 million of new Yahoo! shares for $250 million through its U.S. holding company Softbank Holdings Inc. The payment date is July 14, it said.

Softbank said that as of July 8 its group enjoyed a latent profit of 332.5 billion yen in its shareholding in Yahoo!.

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Softbank shares were up 80 yen, or 1.27 percent, to 6,380 as of 0046 GMT.
