Ray, why would the Jewish elders react in this manner if they did not believe that Jesus claimed to be God?

Thomas -

I'm not denying that the Jews believed that Jesus (Pbuh) claimed to be God. I agree the Jews did think he claimed that. But let's look at what Jesus (Pbuh) said about the Jews:

Jesus (Pbuh) continues to mention time after time that the Jews don't understand him.

John 8:27
They (the Jews) understood not that he spake to them of the Father

John 10:6
Jesus (Pbuh) used this figure of speech, but they (Jews) did not understand what he was telling them.

Luke 2:50
But they did not understand what he was telling them

And there are many more verses which show that Jesus (Pbuh) time after time told the Jews they did not understand him. In the book of John chapter 5, Jesus (Pbuh) tells the Jews that their father is the devil.

So it's odd for you to want me to believe that the Jews understood Jesus (Pbuh) on this vital point. You're taking the side of Jesus' (Pbuh) enemies to say that. In other words, you're believing the Jews when Jesus (Pbuh) said they didn't ever understand him.

Peace Be Unto You,
Ray
