I believe it was stated that yield problems have been rectified in their press release.

I take that to mean that yields at least are better. Also shipments were on the high side of expectations. Even the AMD bulls had 2.7M as high side.

I think you are correct.

The per centage yield probably has remained the same over the past 3 quarters - and across the 0.35 and 0.25 micron processes:
1.5 million (Q497 - 0.35 micron), 1.5 million (Q198 - 0.35 micron) and 2.7 million (Q@98, mostly 0.25 micron).

The 2.7 million seems to be the result of the smaller die size only - NOT improved PER CENTAGE YIELDS.
