MACWORLD NY

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1998--

Gives Consumers, Students, Business Professionals a Macintosh
Storage Solution for Sharing/Transferring Files, Internet
Downloads, Multimedia Applications

SyQuest Technology (Nasdaq:SYQT), the high performance, high
capacity leader in removable storage solutions, Thursday disclosed
plans to develop a USB (universal serial bus) version of its
award-winning SparQ 1.0 gigabyte removable cartridge hard drive.
A perfect peripheral for use alongside the new Apple iMac system,
the SparQ drive's new plug-and-play USB port will provide iMac users
with unlimited storage capacity to access and perform downloads from
the Internet, and run multimedia applications, educational programs
and games, as well as allow them to transfer and share files with
friends, students and colleagues.
"iMac is exciting developers and customers around the world with
its stunning looks and Pentium-toasting performance," said Phil
Schiller, senior director of worldwide product marketing at Apple
Computer Inc. "With leading vendors like SyQuest supporting iMac with
innovative USB products like the SparQ, iMac customers will be able to
easily expand the storage capabilities of their revolutionary new
Macintosh."
The iMac combines the excitement of the Internet with the
simplicity of a Macintosh with its innovative new design, powerful
features and low price. In a radical departure from what has been a
conventional system design, the iMac does not include a floppy disk
drive.
"SyQuest's 1.0 gigabyte SparQ removable storage drive will
provide iMac owners ample storage capacity for migrating data and
applications off hard disk drives, as well as downloading files from
the Internet," Robert Amatruda, senior analyst, International Data
Corp., said.
Apple Computer has always been visionary when it comes to
incorporating or utilizing new technology. More than 10 years ago,
Apple set the standard by being the first company to incorporate high
capacity 3.5" floppy drives into all their systems.
"Like Apple, SyQuest has always been an innovator. We share the
vision that the Internet is going to have a Tsunami effect on
consumers -- creating a need for endless amounts of storage," Gary
Jones, executive vice president, sales and marketing, SyQuest, said.
"Last year megabytes were enough. Now the world is going gigabyte --
and the SparQ drive delivers, at a reasonable price."
The USB SparQ drive is anticipated to be available to consumers
for the holiday shopping season.
People interested in learning more about the upcoming SparQ drive
can stop by the SyQuest booth No.1701 during Macworld Expo at the
Jacob Javits Center in New York City, July 8-10, 1998, or visit the
SyQuest Web site at syquest.com.

Ez-Flyer Bundle!

I wonder why Syquest has chosen not to announce this? I'm looking through the new Musician's Friend catalog (yeah, right-- they're a total ripoff!), and Fostex has come out with the Fostex FD-4, a digital audio 4-track recorder that comes bundled with an external EZ-Flyer drive.

You can be sure that if Iomega had scored this package deal, they would have trumpeted it from here to China and back. (witness the Compaq projector w/ external Clik bundle)

This will do nothing to stop SYQT's slide downward, but at least it's something.

Thai old boy! Splash a little water on your face. Get out and let the sun shine on that head of yours. It will make you feel better. Then get back in there and buy more of this lovely company.
